A Tribe Called Quench: Hazel Mahoney
Meet Hazel Mahony - "Assistant Controller | Business Process Manager | Puzzle Solver" JuiceLander for 5 years and 2 months
"Costuming is something I grew up doing and took to immediately. I love the challenge of using materials that you wouldn't normally think of using in clothing; bubble wrap, sporks, flowers, grass, bottle caps, etc. To me, costumes are wearable art, Art Couture. It's a blend of performance and visual art. The fact that you get to wear the piece and show it off, in the end, is so rewarding.
One year I grew a live grass dress. It didn't grow in time for Mardi Gras, but the vivid rye green grass was perfect for leading the St. Patty's day parade with my uncle.
Mardi Gras is the most sacred experience for me. It's truly a ritual. We spend weeks on our costumes. Day of Mardi Gras we wake up way early to start getting dressed and doing makeup before heading to meet up with our krewe. The marching through the streets, singing, crying, dancing and reveling in life, the good parts and the bad, is a total catharsis."
